The Chippewa Valley Girls Hockey Association, Ltd. was formed to provide the opportunity of playing hockey to girls. The CVGHA is committed to fully fund the Girls High School Hockey Program for a minimum of 3 years. We are committed to maintaining a Girls U16 and/or U14 program to feed the high schools with players who possess the skills to maintain or improve the level of success achieved by previous high school teams. Our long-range goal is to achieve equal funding for Girls Hockey in the Eau Claire and Altoona School Districts. School Board Votes On Girls Hockey Team On December 15, 2008 the Eau Claire School Board voted unanimously to approve making girls' hockey a school district funded varsity sport. The move means fees for all participants will triple:from $100 to $300. The superintendent says it is a matter of equal opportunity."At this point while girl's hockey is offered it is not through the ospices of the school district, it's a club sport." says Ron Heilman. The varsity team is a co-op sport with the Altoona School District. To off set some of the costs of the new team, the administration will look into turning the boy's swimming team into a co-op sport as well. That would create a partnership between Eau Claire North and Memorial. That proposal will go for final approval in the spring.
